Description In the Somali region of Ethiopia, climate change is resulting in drought and water ‎shortages. This has reduced pastoralists and agro-pastorilist basic resources including ‎communal rangeland, and significantly reduced livestock and land productivity. This ‎project intends to combat climate change through community based integrated watershed ‎management specifically in the mountain areas of Dakata and Karamara. The project ‎aims at enhancing and promoting sustainable livelihood alternatives through the ‎implementation of climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, including water ‎harvesting, soil and water conservation practices, training on and provision of improved ‎forage varieties and the establishment of an enclosure area for revenue via the Clean ‎Development Mechanism. The project will contribute to poverty reduction and improved ‎food security and will particularly benefit the most vulnerable portion of the region's ‎population, i.e. the elderly, women and youth. The project will be implemented with the ‎participation of the local community, experts, academics and the relevant Somali regional ‎state offices over five years. Its cost is of USD 497K
